The pharmacy technician program at Cal State LA is delivered online via Zoom. Students will learn online through engaging sessions with the instructor and other students. They will acquire knowledge and skills to work in retail pharmacies, mail-order pharmacies, long-term care facilities, clinics, and hospitals. The program covers 50 hours of instruction covering the fundamental practices of the pharmacy technician field. The pharmacy technician program at Los Angeles Career College has a online option that prepares students for success on the National Pharmacy Technician Board Exam. Once admitted to the program, students will have access to the online platform for 356 days. Students will acquire knowledge and skills to perform in a specialized area and to work as part of a team to interact successfully with department or hospital personnel. Students will participate in an externship experience at a local Walgreens or CVS pharmacy. The externship must be completed before graduation. It gives students the opportunity to transition from classroom to the workplace. Los Angeles Mission College

Los Angeles Mission College offers an online pharmacy technician program as well as an in-person program. Students enrolled in the online program must be present in person for the pharmacy technician externship. Instructors will cover the knowledge and skills needed to manage the handling and preparation of medications in both an outpatient and compounding pharmacy according to legal and ethical guidelines. Course modules include retail products for pharmacy clerk, introduction to pharmacy, body systems, pharmacy calculations, pharmacy operations, and community pharmacy externship. Upon completion of the theory (17.2 units), students will be eligible to enroll in the Community Pharmacy Externship (2.5 units) which covers 15.5 hours per week. Graduates will be prepared to take the national PTCB exam to become Certified Pharmacy Technicians. They have the option to complete additional general education units to earn an Associate in Science Degree Pharmacy Technician. Classes meet Mondays through Thursdays from 8:00 am to 11:50 am for lectures and lab.
